Swiss based web start up TrekkSoft launched a new online sign up process for tour operators, activity providers, tourist offices and travel agents.

TrekkSoft started their operation in Switzerland in 2010 with the goal of developing the best tour operator booking engine as a SAAS (Software as a Service) project. Initially the company was created out of the need to develop a high performance online booking solution for the tour operators Bus2Alps Ltd. (www.bus2alps.com) and Outdoor Interlaken Ltd. (www.outdoor-interlaken.ch). “By working very closely with the team from Bus2Alps
and Outdoor Interlaken we could develop a tailor made online software
for tour operators” says Philippe Willi, CEO of TrekkSoft Ltd.

A new development to the online solution offered by TrekkSoft is the integrated payment gateway. Tour operators can register themselves on www.trekksoft.com, in the set up process they can choose if they want to use the TrekkSoft.com payment gateway, their own PSP (Payment Service Provider) or a PayPal Merchant Account.

The business model of TrekkSoft is based on a transaction fee model. For every online transaction made in favour of a tour operator, TrekkSoft charges 4 % (if the tour operator uses PayPal Merchant account or a own PSP) or 6 % (when using the TrekkSoft Payment Gateway where all credit card fees are included).

So far the system has been used by over 180 000 passengers, which generated over 83 000 paid baskets from over 68 000 registered users. “Presently 54 tour operators and activity providers use our system, hopefully this number will increase significantly with the launch of the new sign up process” says Philippe Willi, CEO of TrekkSoft.

By doing this job I invested so time to get some informations about the actual market, here are my insights:
1) www.rezgo.com – I guess the biggest company in the market – they offer similiar to trekksoft.com a pricing model based on a fee on every transcation
2) www.checkfront.com – they have a pricing model which is based on a monthly fix fee
3) www.tourcms.com – also here a monthly fix fee
4) www.27bards.com – this guys have a monthly fix fee plus a fee per booking

Obviosely all these companies do offer a basic functionality : you can offer online bookings and set up easily new tours online. With trekksoft.com we are also in this market and we are a competitor of these companies. From our point of view the unique functionality we do offer is a integrated payment gateway. That means you don`t have to install a PSP (Payment Service Provider) Account, you just can start right aways by registering under www.trekksoft.com

We do offer a full payment solution and adiminstrative SAAS (Software as a Service) Solution for a flat fee of 6 % per online transcation, all offline (POS / Over the Counter) Transactions are free of charge.

Google Ad Words funktioniert nach dem CPC (Cost per Click) System, man kann quasi autionsmässig für gewisse Keywords ein Angebot machen und definiert für Kampagnen ein Tagesbudget. Das System bietet dann bis zum maximalen Tagesbudget für ein bestimmtest Keyword bis das Tagesbudget komplett aufgebraucht wird. Anhang des sog. CTR (Click Trough Rate) kann dann gemessen werden, von wievielen Impressions (Anzeigen) effektiv dann Clicks auf die eigene Website generiert wird. Als Beispiel: ein CTR von 30 % ist sehr gut, ein CTR von 0.3 % ist eher schlecht. Das kann am gewählten Keyword liegen, zum Beispiel kann das Keyword zu spezifisch gewählt sein, z. B. River Rafting. Es kann aber auch an der gewählten Struktur und am Texting einer Ad Kampagne liegen.

Google Ad Words lohnt sich in der Regel recht schnell, sofern man Zeit investiert und aktiv daran arbeitet. Wenn man als Beispiel CHF 3000.- in ein Printinserat investiert und kaum weiss, ob es daraus mehr Sales gab, weiss man bei Google Ad Words den Effekt zusammen mit TrekkSoft viel besser und kann diesen quantifizieren.
